Photographic Genres
All levels | 10 weeks
Service Description
This bi-weekly course explores the evolution of photographic genres, from historical traditions to contemporary practices, through a combination of seminar discussions and hands-on practice. Students will examine key genres such as portraiture, documentary, landscape, fashion, and still life, analyzing their origins, cultural significance, and transformations over time. The course will also investigate emerging and experimental genres in contemporary photography, including digital manipulation, conceptual photography, and social media-driven imagery. As part of their learning experience, students will be encouraged to explore a genre they have never worked with before, pushing their creative and technical boundaries. The course culminates in a portfolio that reflects both historical influences and modern innovations in photographic storytelling. Through these discussions and critiques, students learn how to orchestrate all of the important decision-making research processes and means necessary to achieve the self-defined goal of bringing their projects to fulfillment.
